Data-Poesie

Performance(Clay, Humidity Sensors, Arduino, PA monitor speakers)2019

Performed at:Tor 40Güterbahnhof Bremen

The work is a performance/poetry reading, that takes Salvadorian author Roque Dalton’s “Love Poem” as a basis to explore narratives of identity and exile. The performance then becomes an amalgamation of data collection, translation, physical material change and sound output.I created a body-size leaf clay object, which hosts a number of humidity sensors, these are connected to an Arduino, which collects and constantly feeds to a computer.

The two numeric values are read and interpreted by a sketch in Pure Data. The variations in readings of the humidity values shift parameters of my voice in real time, sound is then shifted in real time. The whole performance explores new ways of interpreting poems which talk about my connection to my homeland.
