Thought on Fluid Assemblages  - 2024
Performance (together with Carla Anacker, Edgar Lessig, Icaro Lopez de Mesa)
Presented at Radial Systems Berlin

It is a performance piece which intends to propose alternative ways of working on an honest and critical reflection about the impact of human agroindustrial activities in water ecosystems, placing a focus on the pollution of water sources in the Global South. The departure point was the collective experiences with the agroecological cooperative “La Canasta Campesina” in the mountainous region of El Salvador in Central America. They have been extensively working, also with cooperation of the European Union, in reintroducing caring practices with the environment, that avoid monoculture agriculture. Nevertheless, they also had to deal with the recurrence of maladies or illnesses in the bodies of the members from the cooperative, due to the contamination of underground water sources from the previous use of pesticides, for example Glyphosate. We worked on researching and finding ways of bringing awareness to this phenomena, since we believe in the agency artistic practices can have in bringing change. We use the language of performance, since the most recurring affliction from this large-scale contamination manifests in the kidneys, hence during the performance we use the language of dance, movement, together with sonic interventions to propose ways of activating our kidneys, caring for them, and ultimately proposing caring interactions with nature. Water, soil, language, choreography and sounds play an important role in the performance. During the performance we also invited the audience to join us on stage for a portion of the performance and drink water with us
